Halo Laser

halo laser

HALO is a hybrid fractional laser treatment that combines ablative and non-ablative laser technologies to address various skin concerns such as wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation issues. It works by targeting both the surface and deeper layers of the skin, promoting collagen production and revealing a more youthful, radiant complexion. The treatment involves a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling to minimize discomfort, and it typically requires minimal downtime.

By combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths, the Halo laser creates a synergistic effect, delivering both surface-level improvements and deeper dermal rejuvenation for a more comprehensive and long-lasting outcome. It delivers controlled laser energy to both the surface and deeper layers of the skin, triggering a natural healing response and stimulating collagen production. This dual approach allows for effective treatment of various skin concerns with minimal downtime.

The Halo laser can be tailored to address specific skin concerns, including uneven skin tone, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and enlarged pores. It is effective for tissue tightening, lines, and wrinkles, dealing with pores, and combating deeper pigmentation.

  1. Sun Protection:
    • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks before your treatment.
    • Sun damage can increase the risk of complications like hyperpigmentation.
    • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, especially in the weeks leading up to your appointment.
  2. Skincare Routine:
    • Stop using products containing active ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide at least one week before your treatment.
    • These ingredients can make your skin more sensitive and potentially interfere with the laser treatment.
    • Continue using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer and follow any specific instructions from your provider.
  3. Medication & Supplements:
    • Inform your provider about any medications you're taking, including blood thinners like aspirin or ibuprofen.
    • If you're prone to cold sores, your provider may prescribe antiviral medication to prevent outbreaks.
    • Avoid dermal fillers for one to two months before and after your procedure.
  4. Other Considerations:
    • Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free of makeup and lotions.
    • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the weeks leading up to your treatment.
    • Avoid smoking for at least 48 hours before your treatment.

Including the application of numbing solution, it will take about 90 minutes.

For the First Few Days:

  • Protect your skin: Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a high SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) when outdoors.
  • Keep skin moisturized: Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer as needed, especially when you feel dry.
  • Cleanse gently: Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser twice a day.
Manage discomfort: Use cold compresses or ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Avoid harsh products: Do not use exfoliants, retinoids, or other potential irritants for the first month or as advised by your provider.
  • Avoid picking or scratching: Allow peeling and flaking to occur naturally.
  • Elevate your head: Sleeping with your head elevated can help minimize swelling.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to support your skin's healing process.
  • Avoid strenuous activity: Limit activities that cause excessive sweating or overheating for at least a week.
  • Avoid makeup: Refrain from wearing makeup until your skin has finished peeling.

Longer-Term Care (Weeks Following Treatment):

  • Continue sun protection: Strictly avoid sun exposure for several weeks and use sunscreen diligently.

2-3 weeks after the treatment for your provider to evaluate the results of the treatment.

Initial results from a Halo laser treatment are typically visible within 2 to 5 days, with continued improvement over several months. The initial visible changes include a reduction in redness and peeling as the top layer of skin regenerates. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement within the first 2-3 weeks. The dermal regeneration phase, where collagen production increases, takes place over several months.

The frequency of treatments varies based on individual skin needs and desired results, but generally, one treatment per year is recommended for maintaining a youthful glow. For more significant skin concerns, like wrinkles or sun damage, more frequent treatments (e.g., every six months) might be advised.

The Halo laser treatment is generally considered to be tolerable. Most patients report feeling a mild prickling or burning sensation during the procedure, which is typically numbed with a topical anesthetic cream. The discomfort usually subsides within a few hours after treatment. Deeper treatments, areas over thinner skin, and those with sensitive skin may have more discomfort, but it can be managed with a longer numbing time.

There are temporary side effects like redness, swelling, and a sunburned sensation immediately after the procedure, which usually subsides within a few hours to a few days. Some individuals may also experience peeling, itching, or a bronzed appearance as the treated skin sheds. In rare cases, more serious side effects like infection or changes in skin pigmentation can occur, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.

If you have signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage but it also treats uneven skin tone and texture as well as acne scarring. If you are looking for skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime, this can be the right treatment for you.

It is generally considered safe, especially when administered by a qualified professional. It was FDA approved in 2014.
