Broad Band Light (BBL)

broad band light (bbl)

BBL treatment is a handheld device that offers effective skin rejuvenation. It works by delivering pulses of light to the top layers of the skin. Unlike a laser, which delivers a single focused wavelength, the BBL device delivers a broad spectrum of light for a gentle, heat-based rejuvenation treatment.

frequently asked questions

The heat delivered by BBL stimulates the repair and regeneration of skin cells, prompts the production of new collagen, eliminates fine blood vessels causing redness, and decreases the excess pigment causing spots and discoloration.

BBL treats many skin concerns, including age spots, small facial veins, acne, rosacea, redness, and freckles, and can also tighten the top layer of skin. The intense pulsed light of BBL will leave your skin firmer, clearer, and more youthful.

  1. Sun Protection:
    • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds: For 4 weeks before and after your BBL treatment, avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds as tanned skin can be more susceptible to complications.
    • Use sunscreen: When outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily and reapply as needed.
    • Discontinue self-tanners: Avoid using sunless tanning products at least 2 weeks before your treatment.
  2. Skin Care Products:
    • Stop retinol and exfoliating acids: Discontinue using products containing retinol, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or other exfoliating agents at least one week before treatment.
  3. Medications and Medical History:
    • Consult your doctor about medications: Discuss any medications or supplements you are taking with your provider, especially those that can increase photosensitivity or affect blood clotting.
    • Antiviral medication for cold sores: If you are prone to cold sores, your doctor may recommend taking an antiviral medication a few days before the treatment.
    • Inform about medical conditions: Be sure to inform your provider about any relevant medical conditions, including skin conditions, allergies, or previous cosmetic treatments.
  4. Other Considerations: Ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup, lotions, and creams before your appointment.

1 hour

Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight. Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change.

After BBL treatment, follow-up appointments are typically scheduled 4-6 weeks after the initial session for a series of treatments. Maintenance treatments are usually recommended 2-3 times per year to maintain results.

1-2 weeks: Skin may appear smoother, brighter, and less red.

2-4 weeks: Continued improvement in skin tone, texture, and pigmentation.

3-6 months: Collagen production increases, resulting in further improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

The BBL™ treatment can be mildly uncomfortable, but it isn't painful. Your provider may apply a topical numbing agent to help lessen the slight snapping sensation that can occur when light touches the skin. Generally, the BBL™ process is well-tolerated even without an anesthetic.

A good candidate for BroadBand Light treatment typically exhibits concerns like pigmentation disparities, visible facial vessels, or mild rosacea. It can also treat acne with a protocol involving about five sessions, spaced two weeks apart. And Skin Tyte can be used for about 3-5 treatments to tighten loose skin.

Immediately following treatment, you may experience redness, but this should resolve within a few hours. For some conditions, the treatment area may become darker before lightening or disappearing fully.

The procedure is a safe procedure that is gentle on the skin. Throughout the treatment, you may experience warm sensations or a “rubber band snap” as the light hits the target areas.
